* I still need to respond to all the comments on my survival abilities following the crashing dead tree branch. The plan is to remove the tree later today. I've been a tad busy. There's lots to share: adoption papers were signed on Friday. Maybe a court date in 4-6 weeks. I think next week will be 'Tank week'. You've heard of shark week. You've heard of Shark Tank. It's a combo deal. Get excited.

| The 'you said your kids were handling' with the red circle from a screen shot of my text: Marie. |
After I offered for Mini to Nana-sit, two or three other siblings texted that one of their kids could sit with Nana. Mini planned to brush up on her excel before starting her internship and we weren't sure she could accomplish that while hanging at Nana's. WiFi? Password?
After waiting for Dad to stop laughing, I handed him one of his 8 billion glasses to drink and texted in the fam group chat to confirm who was sitting with Nana the next morning. Some nieces and nephews don't have summer jobs, and Mini had something she hoped to accomplish.
Marie texted back. (not Ann. For reference this is my second oldest sis. They're Drisella and Anastasia, both unpleasant, but the difference is Ann is just unpleasant and Marie tries to pretend that she's not unpleasant when really she almost always is, and they both are ultra controlling). A screen shot. Of my text. Offering Mini's services. In red, she circled my offer. Um. OK, like what the hell just happened?
Delilah came over one night last week and we enjoyed chatting on my deck and a sipping a cold, adult beverage. We don't see one another often even though she lives five minutes away. Sometimes we talk while she's stuck in traffic driving home from the city. Right now she's sharing a car with her husband, and they're commuting together. That's no fun- mainly because it's interfering with our girl-time talks.
Delilah: Wait, I read on your blog that Ann used to be so mean to you when you were younger. What's with that? Like she's just never been very nice to you.
I expanded on some of my childhood stories and a few mind blowing ordeal that happened when we were adults, and then - I about hopped out of my chair. WAIT, I HAVE TO TELL YOU THE RED CIRCLED TEXT FROM MARIE.
Delilah (after I told her. I know you don't know her, but picture her - face scrunched, shaking her head -OK, you've got the visual): I don't understand. Like who does that? I don't even know how to circle something in red in a text? You were asking if Mini was still on duty or if someone else was planning to be there?
When I shared the red circled text with Mini, she felt bad, saying she didn't mean to cause any trouble. She was like 'But I thought other people, some of whom don't have employment or internships to get ready for, were also available.' True.
My brother, Mike's son sat with Nana. And when Dad told Nana that her grandson was coming, Nana said, "Why can't everyone just leave me be. I don't need anyone to sit here with me. I'll be fine." It's heart breaking, because she doesn't remember that she forgets where Dad is when he's not home. I sat with her on Friday for a few hours. Dad was having another blood transfusion. She opened the door a few times, looking for him.

Ever gotten a text back in a screenshot CIRCLED IN RED? Anyone understand my Drisella and Anastasia reference?
"Cinderella, Cinderella, night and day...." Evil stepsisters.
ReplyDeleteBut I can't see you sitting quietly in the ashes. You'd let them know things were unfair! You're more of a Mulan than Cinderella!
However, I did like in the little sequel hiw they gave Anastasia a reception and true love.
Sone people you just can't please. Ann and Marie must be unhappy people to be so petty and controlling. Pity them and enjoy your life!
Congratulations on the adoption papers!! We'll have to have a virtual celebration on the official day!
Redemption and true love. Autocorrect stinks.
Deletembmom11 - I got your drift. You knew exactly who I was referencing. It cracks me up, because there are two of them. It's perfect and it so suits them. Fun fact: I've never seen Mulan. You nailed it. Ann and Marie are unhappy and they are big on complaining. I am taking dad to a stress test in the morning at 8:20. Ann texted in the group chat to lmk that he has to reschedule if he's late. I wanted to text back UP YOURS ANN.
DeleteI hope we can find a court date that will happen before school when I still have kids home, etc.
lol cinderella
ReplyDeleteSarah - Hmm, how did you know that? ;)
DeleteI've never gotten a text back circled in any color, but if it did happen red is a nice color. Your reference is to Cinderella's stepsisters. I knew that without cheating by the way.
ReplyDeleteAlly - I didn't even know one could circle a text in any color. Red is a nice color. Well, it gets the point across. Too bad the point here is so dumb. Look at you, not cheating and still knowing. I knew this answer from my days as a nanny, which preceded my motherhood years.
DeleteI'm so confused.
ReplyDeleteBut I did get the reference even though I am largely anti-Disney.
Nance - Marie sent a screenshot back of my text after I asked for clarification about whether or not Mini was still needed to sit with Nana. It was so unnecessary and aggressive. I've been babysitting/a mom for so many years, I can't tell if I know stuff that's not mainstream or if most people share that knowledge.
DeleteWhat a know-it-all personality she has. Ick. The red is like a teacher correcting a kid. Double ick.
ReplyDeleteColleen - she's double ick all right. You nailed it. Sometimes I think it's worse that she's so passive aggressive. Ann is just plain mean and grouchy. Marie pretends to be nice to your face but once you turn around? Watch it. Her daughter goes to ND with Mini. Last year, she drove Mini home once and said (while laughing), "What's the deal with this lawsuit?" as if it was humorous. Neither sister ever said a word about Reg's situation, which is still tough to wrap my brain around. Not even, "Gosh, how is Reg holding up? This is awful."
DeleteDelilah and Mini's comments make sense. Marie's red circle and comment were unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteFun fact: I was a "Guest at the Ball" a.k.a "had no lines" in a high school production of Cinderella.
Jenny in WV- Very true. Mini was like, What? She felt bad for causing a stir.
DeleteI love your fun fact. I hope you got to wear a fancy dress.
Well I just saw a production of Cindarella in New Lenox so that plot is on my mind. And yes, they are evil stepsisters for sure. What in the world, though. Who circles a previous text in red? She is terrible. Just truly terrible. I would really struggle to have any contact with someone who treats me so terribly! But it's family, so it's complicated...
ReplyDeleteLisa - Hilarious that you just saw Cinderella. New Lenox - you were not too far from me. Dang. Next time.
DeleteI agree. She is terrible. I can just see her doing it to, hemming and hawing to her husband. "This is ridiculous. She said Mini could do it and now she's not sure?" Like, read the 2 or 3 texts after mine - other grandkids were available. RED CIRCLES. Unreal. I don't really have contact with them aside from working together to help my parents. I literally would never call either of them on the phone to say hi or anything. Nope. My kids enjoy their kids, but my kids know what their two aunts are like. Ed, who is a great judge of character, is not a fan of Marie. How can anyone have literally nothing to say, he wonders.
I think 3 words says it: Marie’s a B——
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how to do a red circle on a text.
Pat - You chose the right three words, that's for sure. This is the same sister who stopped talking to me when I had a hilarious story published. I called her to ask her what the issue was with it and she hung up on me. What? I don't know how to circle a text in red either. I have to take my dad to a stress test in the morning and Ann texted in the group chat to tell me: IF HE'S LATE HE HAS TO RESCHEDULE. Gee, what're you implying? She's a piece of work. They are buddies and they deserve each other.
DeleteI know those wicked stepsisters! They're the worst...why so damn grouchy? I've never gotten a text like that because I don't have to associate with people like that. THNAK YOU BABY JESUS. I'm sorry that you do.
ReplyDeleteLaughing so hard at Shark Tank, Shark Week. Tank Week. YOU ARE A TRIP!
I love that D reads your blog and comments in real life. :)
I hope all went well with your dad. Praying for a healthy outcome. XO
Suz - They are the worst. Exactly, why must they be this way? It's like Dad's health issue is only happening to them.
DeleteI just drafted story #1 for Tank week, and I do think it will crack you up.
My dad's surgery is on Thursday. He passed the stress test, which he was quite worried about. Thank you for the prayers.
Ahh, siblings. "There's one in every family sire. TWO in mine actually." (Not really, but if we're quoting movies...) I'm so thankful justice was served and Cinderella got the prince! :)
ReplyDeleteCindy - It is sometimes hard to believe we were raised by the same people. But Kay and Rae came from the same horrible situation and it impacted them very differently. Damaging to both, but they handle it differently - so who knows.
DeleteOoh, I don't even know how to circle something in a text! I'll bet my daughter knows, though- I'll have to ask her.
ReplyDeletelol Cinderella...
Jenny - Exactly. I have no idea how to circle something in a screenshot. I bet your daughter knows. Teens get how to use their phones so much better than I do.
DeleteWow, that’s crazy. I mean, you offered Mini, others said their kids could do it, and you said, ‘oh, that would be great because Mini has other stuff’ and you got the circled screenshot of a text. Not cool.
ReplyDeleteJulie - I agree. Crazy. And this is just the tip of the ice burg. Not cool - - - well put.
DeleteMy husband’s older sister would totally have done something like that. And she hasn’t liked him since the day he was born, so that checks. Some people are just born that way and it’s the reason psychologists came up with the term, ‘boundaries’ 🤣
ReplyDeleteBijoux - 100% Ann has never liked me since the day I was born. What have I ever done to her? The text thing was Marie, but she's so passive aggressive - although this felt just plain old aggressive. Boundaries - I bet you're right about the background there. Too funny.
