a b-day, &falling on deaf ears: edited down

Because life continues while I try to catch you up on the adoption journey, I must share this before I proceed:

Inside the flap it reads:
 Now Lad has a brother.
Hello, let's not gloss
over the cute photo.
In my former life, I made cards. This was
 before the internet offered
 cards cheap and fast.

Note:  I drew the pumpkin and fence on each card before mailing it out. There's a lift the flap here . . .see 2nd photo. I cut everything out with an exacto knife. Let's not talk about how long it took me to get the words on the back of that flap to line up on the cards before I printed them.

1. Today, 10/18th Eddie turns 21.

This kid is a gem. He's incredibly responsible. He owns his mistakes. (I can barely do that now, let alone when I was in college). He works his butt off. He's the risk manager for his fraternity, because as a freshman they all recognized his 'dad' like quality. He says it like it is and isn't afraid to say what needs to be said. He's a loyal friend and amazing brother. And mostly, he's always in my corner and enjoys spending time with me (assuming none of his buddies are available). We are all going to his school on the 23rd (Lolo's wedding day - Woot woot! Suz's daughter) to tailgate for a game. *Lad just said he might not be able to get off work. Grr.

Inside the card . . . my photos
are off topic a tad,
 feeling nostalgic here with
 the homemade
birth announcement.
2. Mini makes too much ear wax.

PRESENT DAY:  I'd never even heard of such a thing, but now I wonder if it's a trait from Coach's side and if this might explain why he sometimes doesn't hear me.

Anyway, she has to get her ear wax vacuumed out four times a year. Her last appointment was in the summer, I told her to put a reminder in her phone so we weren't trying to score an appointment in the 11th hour when she'd suddenly become deaf. That's what happens. The wax gets so bad that she essentially becomes deaf.

Shocker:  she never put a reminder in her phone.

Last week, she came home from school and said that her wax had gotten bad. I stood in my kitchen and tried to remember what month it was, how long ago our last appointment had been, etc.

Thank you, hectic life of late for allowing me to lose track of EVERYTHING. Can't even blame covid.

Mini (speaking really LOUDLY):  I rubbed at the side of my ear and I guess I made it all get stuck together because now I can't hear.

Me (shaking my head):  I told you to keep track.

Mini: WHAT?

Me: (eye roll - reaching for the phone to see when we could get her in).

Over the next few days, Coach and I would be in the middle of some pretty deep conversations about some adoption related issue. How should we handle this? How would this play out?

Enter Mini, unaware of a conversation, let alone a heavy conversation, speaking loudly about something like:  OH MY GOSH, TODAY IN CLASS  . . . IT WAS SO FUNNY. or HEY, CAN SOMEONE DRIVE REG IN THE MORNING BECAUSE I WAS SORT OF HOPING . . .

Me:  MINI, WE WERE TALKING.

Mini:  OH SORRY. I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING.

Nothing like a little comic relief while we were stressed out.

+++++++++++++++

I woke up this morning and decided that I'd made this post INSANELY long . . . Nicole was a brave soul and still read it and commented, but I've edited it to put the next half up for tomorrow. Trying to think of the people who might not want to come back here if they don't have time for crazy-ass-long posts. And I don't blame them.

Wow, so it finally happened! The boys moved in! That's pretty great, what a journey to get there. I'm happy for you!

My son also has to get wax taken out of his ear at the doctor's, but not as often as Mini.

The announcements are so darn nice. YOU have amazing talents, my friend.

I hope the tailgating family gathering is a blast; Eddie sounds like a fabulous human! Happy 21st birthday.

Does it hurt Mini to get the wax extracted? I've never heard of someone making too much wax, poor kid.

I never find your posts to be too long. Some people, write long posts and I can hardly read them because boring. Yours are never boring.

I woke up the other day with itchy ears and mine were full of wax. Having someone vacuum it out sounds kind of heavenly. :)

So exciting to hear about this stage - picking up the boys! This truly is an amazing journey- I’m so sorry though that there were so many rough patches. Can’t wait for the next chapter.

Those cards you made are so sweet!

The birth announcement is so cute, you’ve got a lot of patience to get things lined up on both sides.
My husband can probably compete with Mini on the ear wax making. I’ll look over at him and see a big clump just sitting in his ear hole. Although it sounds like she’d win, he did get his flushed out at the doctor once and said it was crazy what came out, but he’s never gone deaf from it…. Yet lol
I agree with Suz, I’ve never felt like your posts were too long, they’re always interesting or entertaining and leave me looking forward to the next post.

Nicole - You, the early bird, got to see the full, albeit lengthy post. You can take a day off now tomorrow. Mini is so happy when her ears are cleaned out, but if she doesn't get back there regularly enough - she's deaf again.

Suz - Thanks. Oh how I used to love creating stuff like this. Maybe I should've gone into advertising or something where I could use my creative juices. Some kind of toss up between advertising and costume making. See, this is why I babysit . . . too hard to figure out what actual job I could do.

Good thing Ed is such a good kid, because he needed copies of his brand new passport TODAY. So I was working on that this morning . . . um, I needed to forge his signature. Scan it. Email it. All because my initial photo wasn't what he needed. Someone failed to read the small print on his HOW TO REGISTER TO STUDY ABROAD paperwork.

Mini is THE MOST TICKLISH PERSON ALIVE. I forgot to attach the video - it isn't graphic but it is the doc asking her to hold still. Um, impossible for Ms. Tickel-Me-Mini. Not painful, just giggles.

I'm glad to know that I don't bore you . . . still, what if you are the minority? Also, never, ever read my early posts. Cringe-worthy long and blabber-fest.

Kari - It is very amazing, according to Mini. I don't think I would find it so great - but then I don't have this issue that she has. See - ALL COACH'S SIDE. As all other faulty things . . . kidding.

AM - Other ear wax abundant sufferers unite! She really does have difficulty hearing when it builds up. Apparently her mother has done too much for her because this very capable girl is STRUGGLING to take care of her stuff.

I'm not sure if you would call my over the top cussing 'patience' but I do remember spending a silly amount of time trying to figure it all out. Even worse than the printer stories of late, like when printing simple things like envelopes.

Glad to hear that you are not falling asleep while reading my posts. I was going to go back to two posts this week, but when I looked at this post this morning I was like OH, HELL NO, ERNIE. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. I basically had the post written but decided to add stuff that's happening in real time out of fear that I'd forget about it. Well, hello - that made it lengthy.

Pat - Sorry I'm commenting out of order. I was being all scroll happy over here. You must've seen a sneak peek at the lengthy as all get out post. Yes, at long last the boys could come here.

I used to take such joy in making birth announcements and invites, Etc.
